I first came across the Nova kitcar back in the early 1980’s. I was wanting to build a kitcar and had no idea which one to build.
There were plenty on the market at that time and of course I looked first
at the “lookalike” kits, Countach, testarossa and so on. Then I came across the Nova and I new that was the one.
It was special and I
believe, still is. It is the only car, letalone just kitcar, on the road, that the whole roof rises to gain entery.
So, in early 1982, off I went and got my first kit. It was in dark blue, the only one in that colour at that time.
The floorpan was ready long before the body kit arrived and with some help, was soon near completion. Then came the electric’s. Nightmare. Old loom ripped out of donor beetle, no lables and no idea what to do with it (always
buy a loom with a kit). So after months of trying, I had had enough and sold the car before it was finished. I don’t like to be defeated, so to this end, I have now got another Nova, that has been sitting around for some 2 years without cover and engine. Out in all weathers and possibly that way for many many
years. This is the story of that build and the problems I encounter while restoring it.
The story begins.
